Our five-day program is comprised of one class for three-year-olds and three multiage classes for children ages 3 through 5 years old. Each class of 14-18 children has two co-teachers, visits our music specialist twice a week, and spends at least 30-45 minutes each day on the playground. Since many of the children in our multiage classes are in their pre-kindergarten year, activities focusing on literacy, language and math are embedded in the curriculum. Assessment of kindergarten readiness is ongoing throughout the year.
We use an emergent curriculum model in which our curriculum and learning goals are integrated into projects and investigations of topics in which the children have shown interest. Some examples are the study of live tadpoles and frogs which led to the building of a pond habitat, the investigation of the vanishing garden which resulted in the building of a rabbit house and a special garden just for the rabbits!
